The original manuscript on eight quarto pages, written and signed by Leeuwenhoek, is preserved at the Royal Society (MS. 2075. L 4. 24). It was accompanied by four figures, the original drawings of which are lost.

Leeuwenhoek's summary

Leeuwenhoek did not include the letters from 1702-04-28 (AB 237) through 1712-06-10 (AB 294) among his self-published and thus self-numbered letters. Those with scientific observations were all addressed to members of the Royal Society and almost all of them were excerpted in Philosophical Transactions.

Reception in London

The letter was read in the meeting of the Royal Society of December 8, 1708 0.S. (Royal Society, Journal Book Original, vol. II, p. 155).

They published almost the whole letter in Philosophical Transactions no. 320 for March and April 1709, pp. 294-301 with four figures.

The original English translation on eight folio pages is preserved at the Royal Society (MS. 2076. L 4. 25).
